Firewatch Group Cornish Charity Golf Day
For over ten years Firewatch SW have been hosting charity golf days, located in Devon for customers, suppliers and friends of the Firewatch Group.

Martin Smith CEO of FWG and organiser has set the date for a new golf day,
“Martin explained that he and his fellow Directors, particularly Cornishman Max Willey, were aware that the FWG had not had the opportunity to schedule an event for clients based in Cornwall, the annual golf day in the summer made it difficult for many to attend. He further explained that the days proceeds will be donated to Cornwall Hospice Care” this will separate from the other charities we support and has been nominated by our employees who operate in Cornwall, Frankie Dunn, Steve Stubbs, Graham Wyatt and Sales Manager Simon Molloy.

Martin added further “The golf days we have put on in the past have been very successful and I am hoping this new golf day in Cornwall will be just as memorable! Our golf days are suited to both the social and serious golfer and are a great way to network with other businesses whilst supporting a local charity.”

The golf day will take place on April 25th at Whitsands Bay, Nr. St Germans Cornwall. Read more here...

Firewatch Group Charities 2012
In 2011 the Firewatch Group raised nearly £10,000 for its nominated charities the Devon Air Ambulance Trust and the South West MS Centre.

For 2012 we have nominated the West of England School and College, the leading regional centre for young people with little or no sight, based in Exeter. They provide education, health, care, therapy and mobility to ensure that learners receive the highest quality services including:
•A school and college for children aged from 4-24 years of age
•Outreach and advisory services for visual impairment
•Training in visual impairment and special needs
•Training for learning disabilities and sensory impairment
•Workforce development and research

Many young people attending the West of England School and College have severe and complex needs as well as visual impairment. The aim is to develop their independence so that they can grow academically and socially, whatever their ability. Each learner is given a personalised curriculum designed to meet their individual learning and care needs.

Our other charity is Steps based in Torquay and UK registered. It aims to make every day a play day for children and young people who cannot play independently. Mainstream toys are adapted so that with a special external switch, individuals can play with the toys by switching them on, by blowing, sucking, bashing, squeezing or pressing the switch…whatever movement remains to the individual.
Steps experienced staff try hard to match the individual with an external switch maximising their available movement. Steps are delighted to have just celebrated 20 years of its adapted developmental toy and switch lending library service.

The proceeds of our annual golf day July 20th at Dainton Park near Newton Abbot will be the main fund raiser, as well as a function towards the end of the year.

VANDER A MEMBER OF BRITISH MADE FOR QUALITY!

As one of the remaining few clothing manufacturers in the UK, Vander is now a member of British Made For Quality, the Campaign to "Keep Manufacturing in Britain".
Great Britain was the birthplace of the industrial revolution, but unfortunately Britain's manufacturing industries - once the envy of the world - are in freefall decline.

"We are unanimous in our belief that manufacturing must be kept alive in Britain!"

WINTER OLYMPIAN FOR NEWTON ABBOT!!!

Newton Abbot based Vander Clothing UK Ltd have stepped in to provide local schoolgirl and exciting young Alpine skier, Katie Eden, with a custom made ski jacket. With over 30 years experience of designing and manufactering waterproof and thermal clothing Vander are experts in producing such garments.

Group CEO Martin Smith explained the companies involvement with Katie Eden:

"I met Katie when she came with her parents Tim & Anne to a presentation to the Rotary Club of Newton Abbot, who had recently given Katie some support. All the members were extremely impressed with her confident presentation and in particular her determination to suceed in the very difficult pursuit of Alpine Skiing."

Katie went on to compete in the Lions Ski Club British Indoor Championships at Castleford in August 2010, wearing the custom-made Vander jacket and achieved 1st place in her age group. Katie explains on her website:

"Having good quality clothing for the extreme conditions that a mountain environment presents is essential to my performance. It is with great excitement that I wish to thank Peter and his team at Vander for developing my own custom made ski jacket and accessories."

You can follow Katie and her experiences on her website here.

VANDER A SUCCESS IN EXTREME CONDITIONS

Damien Mansell took a Vander Icefield Jacket to the Norwegian Svalbard Glaciers in the most extreme conditions. He studied at Swansea university in Glaciology and has since become well known for his work.

Damien was asked to comment on the jacket features that were particularly useful:

“The hood and the large strap that came around the front was brilliant for those really cold days when everything needed to be covered. With a buff or balaclava and a pair of goggles this did the job nicely and kept the wind out. The fleece lining in the hood was perfect for the long days at the end of the field season when temperatures were more variable. A good hood was better than a good hat as you could cover up without having to fish around for a hat.”

ROYALTY WEARS VANDER

In January 2007, Princess Anne wore a Vander Icewall jacket in the freezing temperatures of Antarctica. The Princess Royal, accompanied by her husband Rear Admiral Timothy Lawrence flew from the Falklands to see the work of scientists at the British Antarctic Scientific Base in Rothera, as well as visit a US scientific station and a Ukrainian research base.
